Most runs in a year by a batsman in test match cricket. Most test runs in one year, ever.

It took 11 matches and 19 innings to Sir Vivian Richards of West Indies to make 1710 runs on one calender year. way back in 1976..

30 years later, Mohammad Yousuf of Pakistan, saying that he found his best form since changing his religion from Christianity to Islam, broke Richards's record with a mind blowing 1788 runs from same number of matches and equal innings. Yousuf made as many as 9 century in year 2006 which also the maximum by any batsman in one year (he was also out for a duck once).
