Sehwag likely to play against Sunrisers

Delhi Daredevils opener Virender Sehwag is likely to play against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League tie here at the Ferozeshah Kotla Friday.

Sehwag was seen practicing at the Daredevils camp at the Kotla nets here Thursday. The 34-year-old batted for approximately 25 minutes when Irfan Pathan, South African spinner Johan Botha, and West Indian pacer Andre Russel bowled to him. He looked confident while playing his shots.
The former Daredevils captain missed the first three matches, which the side lost, and the Delhi-based team are in dire need of their star batsman. The explosive opener missed the games due to back spasm.
"Sehwag is definitely improving. We will take a call tomorrow. He is a big player for us and his return will be massive for the team," said all-rounder Morne Morkel after a practice session.

Wrong to call me 'badshah of cricket', says SRK

hahrukh Khan
Bollywood 'Badshah' Shah Rukh Khan refuses to be called the "badshah of cricket" following the recent title victory of his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He says the credit for the win goes to the entire team.

"The team's badshah is our CEO Venky (Mysore), Jai (Mehta) and of course the whole cricket team. It would be wrong for us to take any credit for the win, me or Juhi (Chawla)," Shah Rukh said here Tuesday night after his return from Kolkata.

"We go there (on the field), pray to god and we love our team. But we don't work hard like the team. I can't take the credit from them and call myself the badshah of cricket," he added.

A victory parade was held in Kolkata in the team's honour Tuesday, and Shah Rukh celebrated at the Eden Gardens with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and team co-owner Juhi Chawla.

Asked if they plan to extend the celebrations to Mumbai, Juhi said: "We haven't slept for two days, we were going crazy with happiness. First, there was celebration in Chennai, then next day there was a big celebration in Kolkata. It's been huge and overwhelming, it felt like we have won the world."

KKR were crowned the IPL champions Sunday night in Chennai after they beat Chennai Super Kings in the final match.

It's Sehwag vs Gambhir as Delhi take on Kolkata in IPL Qualifier 1

Kolkata Vs Delhi, IPL Qualifier 1
Two teams with matching firepower will come face to face when table-toppers Delhi Daredevils take on second-placed Kolkata Knight Riders in what promises to be a high-voltage first qualifier of the controversy-ridden IPL on Tuesday.

In a season which has been marred by unsavoury incidents off the field, the IPL's cricketing climax promises to be quite a treat with heavyweights making the last four.

And no better than Delhi and KKR to kick off the business end of the event as the two teams have without doubt been the most consistent performers in the Twenty20 league this season.

Both the teams boast of explosive batting line-ups. Their bowling attacks have also done exceptionally well in a format which is considered punishing for the bowlers.

When the two teams came face to face in the league stage, the honours were shared with Delhi triumphing in Kolkata and KKR returning the favour when they visited the capital.

On paper, the sides match up pretty well and it promises to be a battle of equals. If Delhi has the brutality of captain Virender Sehwag and David Warner, Kolkata have the answer in Brendon McCullum.

If Mahela Jayawardena lends stability to Delhi's batting order, Kolkata captain Gautam Gambhir has been equally inspirational for his team.

In fact, both the teams have equally potent all-rounders in the line-up with Irfan Pathan rediscovering his old form for Delhi and Bangladeshi Shakib Al Hasan doing the job for Kolkata.

On the bowling front, Delhi have a pace ace in South African Morne Morkel, who has not just been miserly in conceding runs but has also been wrecker-in-chief when it comes to picking up wickets.

Ably supported by Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron, Delhi's pace attack has looked lethal with Morkel at the helm.

Kolkata also have an intimidating pace battery with Australian Brett Lee likely to make a comeback after sitting out in the last three games.

But with the likes of mystery spinner Sunil Narine, Iqbal Abdulla and Shakib in the rank, Kolkata will definitely have an upper hand over Delhi in the spin department.

Kolkata have their own match-winning bowler in mystery spinner Narine, who has been consistency personified.

Delhi Daredevils: Virender Sehwag (Capt), Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardena, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Puneet Bisht, Robin Bist, Naman Ojha (wk), Shahbaz Nadeem, Venugopal Rao, Vikas Mishra, Yogesh Nagar, Zafir Patel, Sunny Gupta, Tejashwi Yadav, Aavishkar Salvi, Kuldeep Raval, Manpreet Juneja, Pawan Negi, Prashant Naik, Aaron Finch, Andre Russell, Doug Bracewell, Glenn Maxwell, Gulam Bodi, Morne Morkel, Roelf van der Merwe.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Gautam Gambhir (c), Brendon McCullum (wk), Jacques Kallis, Manoj Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan, Debabrata Das, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Rajat Bhatia, Sunil Narine, Brett Lee, Iqbal Abdulla, Chirag Jani, Iresh Saxena, Jaidev Unadkat, Manvinder Bisla, Pradeep Sangwan, Sanju Samson, Sarabjit Singh Ladda, Mohammad Shami Ahmed, Eoin Morgan, Marchant de Lange, Ryan ten Doeschate and Shakib Al Hasan.

Put into bat RCB rode on a whirlwind 47 ball 89 by Chris Gayle to pile up an imposing 185 run total. The RCB bowlers then bowled brilliantly taking wickets at regular intervals. The Mumbai batsmen hardly looked settled with the middle order collapsing at crucial moments.
Sachin Tendulkar (40) was the only Mumbai batsman who showed some grit but after his departure, it was all over with wickets crumbling at regular intervals.

Which Team Will Win Today's Match ?

Mumbai Indians vs. Kolkata Knight Riders
AFTER SEVENTY matches and one and half months, the league round of the fourth edition of Indian Premier League ended on Sunday, May 22, with a match that finished as a last-ball thriller between Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders.

After league rounds, four teams including the Daniel Vettori-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have qualified for the play-offs of the Indian Premier League 2011.

Among the four teams, Kolkata Knight Riders is the only team that has qualified for the final four for the very first time in the history of IPL.

Mumbai Indians, who ended the league round with 18 points like Chennai, was placed in the third spot due to poorer run rate compared to defending champion Chennai. This year Kolkata Knight Riders has broken its last three years' jinx for not qualifying in the final four. During the IPL auction in January 2011, Shah Rukh Khan's owned Kolkata Knight Riders bought Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan at a very high price tag.

Second Play-offs of the IPL 2011 is playing from Wednesday May 25, 8.00 PM with a game between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. Here full schedule of Second Play off.

Former India captain Saurav Ganguly back in IPL

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, who went unsold in this year's Indian Premier League auction, has signed up to play for the Pune team.

Ganguly, 38, played for the Calcutta team in the first three seasons of the lucrative cricket tournament.
He scored more than 18,500 runs in Tests and ODIs before retiring from international cricket in 2008.
The Pune team is at the bottom of the table in the ongoing IPL season - which is now about half completed.
It has lost six out of the eight matches it has played.
A Pune team spokesman said Ganguly, who replaces the injured fast bowler Ashish Nehra, would "bring a lot of experience to the team".
Ganguly, one of India's most successful cricket captains, went unsold in the IPL players' auction in January - he had a base price of $400,000.
He was the captain of the Calcutta team for the first two seasons of the IPL.

Will Sourav Ganguly to play in IPL 4?

According to the latest reports, Sourav Ganguly is likely to make a comeback in IPL 4 with the debutant KTK (Kochi Tuskers Kerala).

The sources said that after Steven Smith decided to pull out from the tournament due to his ankle injury, Kochi franchise is keen on signing Dada.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s decision to call back it’s players from IPL has brightened Sourav Ganguly’s chance to play for the team as Kochi's current captain Mahela Jayawardena will have to go back.

Sourav Ganguly was ignored by all the ten franchisees at the IPL auctions for season 4, which were held at Bangalore recently.

If the Kochi deal works out, Sourav can look forward to joining forces with his old KKR mates Brendon McCullum, Brad Hodge and Owais Shah and one-time Sri Lankan foes of Mahela Jayawardene and Muttiah Muralitharan.
