World Cup fever begins | watch live cricket match | live cricket match |

Legendary cricketers Imran Khan, Kapil Dev, Vivian Richards and Arjuna Ranatunga shared their ideas about how to make the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 presentation truly entertaining and engaging at a recently held press conference.

There were several new initiatives that were proposed in the discussion like live match coverage by 3G mobile streaming in India where fans will enjoy unrestricted access to the biggest cricket event on internet and mobile besides televisions. Also another first of its kind initiative would be the 'Decision Review System' which will be introduced for the first time for any ICC tournament. "It will certainly be a very big challenge to organize an event of this magnitude that will be spread across 13 venues in three host countries — Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka for a month," informs ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 tournament director, Ratnakar Shetty.

"To create more excitement and interest amongst the viewers we have taken some new initiatives which will intensify the passion amongst the cricket fans," added ICC chief executive, Haroon Lorgat.

Speaking on the occasion, former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan said, "India has performed really well in the last few years. They definitely stand the chance to win the cup. Another team that according to Imran can upstage any strong team is Sri Lanka. "But I'm dying to see India win the cup. The Indian team has turned out to be the best. Best teams do come under pressure and it is all about how you cope with the pressures."

Kapil Dev said, "Two months are left for the world cup to begin. The team is doing well especially the youngsters in the team have done a commendable job in recent matches. At the end of the day, it's all about team spirit and playing according to the situation." Further according to Kapil Dev, the main key players from the Indian team would be MS Dhoni, Sachin, Sehwag, Pathan and Gambhir.

Vivian Richards is, however, rooting for the West Indies team, and believes that the team would do well in the World Cup. He is hopeful that India being a strong team, would definitely reach the final. "The young players have been performing well. Also since the matches will be played on the home ground they are definitely going to have an edge over other teams."

However, Arjuna Rantunga feels that Sri Lanka will come blazing on all cylinders this World Cup. "There is a lot of experienced players in the Sri Lankan team like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Malinga, Muralitharan and others who will surely make a difference."

IPL will miss Pakistani cricketers: Akram

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram believes the Indian Premier league (IPL) will lose its gloss after ignoring Pakistani cricketers, most of whom he stressed are counted among the best in the shorter version of the game.

Speaking on the sidelines of a match featuring special children here at the PIA Academy Wednesday, the legendary pacer also took a swipe at the national cricket authorities over their failure to get IPL berths for the players.

It is for the second successive year that the Pakistani cricketers have been sidelined for the cash—rich Twenty20 league.

“There is little doubt about the popularity of Pakistani cricketers in Twenty20 cricket,” said Akram, regarded among the greatest fast bowlers of all time. “That is why I believe that the IPL will certainly miss exciting players like Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq.”

Pakistan has featured in two finals of the three ICC World Twenty20 championships held so far and are considered to be a major force in the shortest format of the game.

But IPL officials have shown little interest in Pakistani players.

Pakistan’ cricket stars were not included in the auction of 416 players for next year’s edition of the IPL. The auction will take place in Bangalore Jan 8-9
Although Pakistani cricketers took part in the inaugural IPL in 2008, they were forced out in 2009 due to security concerns in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks and were ignored for this season’s Twenty20 event.

IPL organisers have declared that Pakistan’ cricket authorities did not inform them whether any of their players were interested in the featuring in the league.
However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has claimed that the IPL organisers never kept them in the loop.

Akram lamented that a lack of communication between the PCB and IPL organisers has deprived Pakistan’s players of an excellent platform to exhibit their skills.

“There was obviously a lack of communication but PCB should have initiated and pushed for the inclusion of its players in the event. Their failure shows a lack of vision among the board officials.”

Speaking on a different issue, Akram threw his weight behind the idea of forming a players’ committee in Pakistan. The idea of a cricketers’ association has gained momentum after Aamer Bashir — a first—class stalwart — died of cancer earlier this week at the age of 38.

Akram also had a word of advice for Mohammad Yousuf, the former Pakistan captain who was axed from the team because of fitness issues.

Yousuf claims that he is fit and has rapped Pakistan’s selectors for overlooking him for the ongoing tour of New Zealand. Akram said that instead of criticising the selectors, Yousuf should prove his form and fitness on field.

IPL 2011 Auctions, the much awaited cricket picks ( Indian Premium League )

Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions for players have been scheduled on the 8th and 9th of January wherein above 400 cricket champs will be under the selling spree as teams make their required preferences.
Sources close to the team confirmed that the auction will be set in Bangalore and the number of players involved will be 416.
Under the regulations meant for IPL players can be retained by the team but the limitation is set on four players only.
Out of these four players only three can be Indian cricketers. This retaining also comes with a price as per the rules a deduction of $9 million will be done from the salary cap.
Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, the champion teams of last year’s league have been fully retained.
The former team has retained Indian cricket teams captain MS Dhoni along with Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina and Albie Morkel the all rounder of South Africa.
Mumbai Indians on the other hand has retained the cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar along with players like Lasith Malinga, Harbhajan Singh and Kieron Pollard the powerhouse of West India.
In the auctions MI and CSK have spent their vast amount and are only left with $4.5 million to buy players which can also be through Ranji players that are not a part of the auction.
The Delhi team Daredevils has made a quick start with the swaggering player Virender Sehwag, while the Royal Challengers have held back Virat Kohli.
The Aussie players Shane Watson and Shane Warne have been retained by Rajasthan Royals.

Live Cricket Matches, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI to furnish bank guarantees

The two Indian Premier League (IPL) teams that faced expulsion, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, are ready to comply with the Bombay high court’s orders and furnish bank guarantees by 3 January, allowing them to participate in the players’ auction to be held by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and play in season 4 of the fixture.
The court has asked the Royals, run by Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt. Ltd, to deposit $20.83 million (Rs.94.4 crore) as players’ salaries for two years and to protect their contracts. The bank guarantee to be deposited with the court will be in favour of BCCI.
Kings XI Punjab, run by KPH Dream Cricket Pvt. Ltd, has to deposit $32.77 million. A person closely associated with the Mohali team said it has to deposit money “for the losses that BCCI might suffer in case the final verdict of the arbitration goes against us. We are confident about the verdict, that is why we are willing to furnish this huge amount.”
Kings XI will raise money from its shareholders in the respective ratio of their stakes in the team, said an executive close to the development. The four investors—Gaurav Burman, Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta—hold 23% each. The Apeejay Surrendra Group’s Karan Paul has a 4% stake while another 4% is held by Root Investments Pvt. Ltd.
Sean Morris, chief executive of Rajasthan Royals, said that it hadn’t been decided whether the money will be raised internally or as a loan. “We’ve always followed the court’s ruling. Twice they’ve ruled in our favour,” he said. The team is promoted by actor Shilpa Shetty and her businessman husband Raj Kundra.
It’s not clear whether BCCI will move the Supreme Court after having lost an appeal twice in the high court.
An official of the sports administrator said on condition of anonymity that the board has not taken a call on moving court over the expulsion of the two teams.
“First, let the courts open (3 January) and let these teams make the necessary deposits and then let’s see. They are saying now that they willcomply with the court order, but I have serious doubts. Whatever we do will depend on whether they comply,” the BCCI official said.
BCCI doesn’t have much room for manoeuvre because of the year-end holidays.
“The courts are closed till early January. If they appeal after the auction, the whole process becomes a lot more complex,” said Indranil Blah, chief operating officer, Kwan Entertainment and Marketing Solutions Pvt. Ltd, a sports marketing agency.
It may not be easy to adjust the players if the two teams are expelled after the auction. “They (BCCI) are on the backfoot as far as advertisers and sponsors go,” Blah said.
The number of matches will increase this season because of the addition of two teams to the existing eight.
“If there were 60 matches, now IPL could have 94 or more. BCCI had so far planned for just eight teams,” Blah said. “Now it will have to squeeze 10 teams into their 45-day schedule for IPL. A lot of the matches may just land up in non-prime time and that wouldn’t sit well with sponsors.”
In spite of the uncertainty about the number of matches, the franchises, old and new, are planning their sponsorship activities.
A person familiar with the developments at the new team, Kochi, said: “We are exploring the possibility of auctioning the team’s title. It is a good branding opportunity for companies without owning a team and will generate revenue for us. The Anchor group, the lead investor, will have the rights to match the sponsorship amount at any point of time.” Anchor Earth owns 27% in the Kochi IPL team.
A Mumbai Indians executive said the franchise will seek to raise more sponsorship money than in the previous season as several of its existing sponsors will extend partnerships to cover the new season as well.
“But we’ll make our plans known once the auctions happen and the composition of the team is known,” he said.
Raghu Iyer, chief marketing officer of Rajasthan Royals, said advertisers belonging to industries such as telecom, mobile phones and insurance were keen to participate, but deals are still at various stages of finalization.
“In any given year, we see a jump of 70% or more in sponsorships over the previous year. For merchandise and apparel, our partner continues to be Puma,” he added.
An executive at Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd, which owns the broadcast rights for IPL, had said earlier that the company got around Rs.800 crore in revenue in the previous season. “We should at least make Rs.1,100 crore-plus this year, with the inclusion of the new teams.”
